New Zealand's 2021 Michael Hill Violin Competition Moved to 2022
The Board of the Michael Hill International Violin Competition has this week announced the cancellation of the 2021 Competition
The Board of the Michael Hill International Violin Competition, in Auckland, New Zealand, has this week announced the cancellation of the 2021 Competition - due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.
To replace what would have been the competition's 20th year, the MHIVC organizers will host a 2021 music festival in Queenstown, New Zealand plus a domestic violin competition - with the next Michael Hill International Violin Competition now moved to 2022.
“The Covid-19 pandemic has had enormous, adverse effect on the global performing arts industry ... we are acutely aware of the lost wages and careers musicians across the planet are facing ... the Board of the Michael Hill International Violin Competition is hugely sympathetic to this, but with no firm date framework about when New Zealand’s borders will be open to international visitors, we cannot move ahead with our 2021 event. " MHIVC Executive Director Anne Rodda has this week told The Violin Channel.
"We trust that what we’re planning in its place – two wonderful events – will be vibrant placeholders until we can welcome international violinists to our shores again," she has said.
