Prominent African-American contemporary composer and musicologist Dr Olly Wilson has passed away – aged 80.
A PhD graduate of the University of Iowa, Dr Wilson served long term teaching positions on faculty at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and the University of California, Berkeley.
His symphonic works were performed internationally – including commissions from the Chicago Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, Boston Symphony, San Francisco Symphony and the New York Philharmonic.
He was also the founder of the TIMARA (Technology in Music and Related Arts) program at Oberlin Conservatory – the first conservatory program in electronic music.
Our condolences are with Dr Wilson’s family, friends, colleagues and students.
