Applications Closing for the 2024 International Max Rostal Competition
More than €23,000 in prize money is available at this Berlin-based competition, with applications closing on May 31
The 2024 edition of the International Max Rostal Competition will be held from October 19 to 25 at the Universität der Künste Berlin. The competition caters to violinists and violists who are under the age of 30. Applications must be received by May 31, 2024.
Applicants must upload an audition video containing two contrasting movements of solo Bach, the first movement of either Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 1 in D major or Robert Schumann's Violin Concerto in D minor, and a violin-piano duo by Schubert or Beethoven from an approved list. The three players who proceed to the final of each category will appear with the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin and conductor Pavel Baleff.
For both the violin and viola competitions, the first prize is worth 7,000 euros, the second prize is worth 3,000 euros, and the third prize is worth 1,500 euros. There are also prizes decided by the audience and the youth audience, as well as an award for the best performance of the commissioned work.
In 2024, the competition jury comprises Dr. David Geringas (Chair), Prof. Marianne Piketty, Prof. Kyung Sun Lee, Prof. Christoph Poppen, Prof. Lars Anders Tomter, Prof. Nils Mönkemeyer, and Prof. Carol Rodland.
The competition's artistic directors are Prof. Nora Chastain and Prof. Hartmut Rohde.
