Applications Open for 2023 Bowdoin International Music Festival
The priority deadline to Bowdoin's five programs is January 16, 2023
The Bowdoin International Music Festival will take place from June 24 - August 5, 2023, in Brunswick, Maine. With about 250 students on campus each summer, the festival cultivates personal attention, encouragement, and nurturing, with hundreds of opportunities to learn, rehearse, and perform.
Students attending have the opportunity to take private lessons, join studio classes, participate in chamber music, schedule ample practice time, and attend composer lectures and seminars with faculty and guest artists.
The priority deadline to apply is January 16, 2023.
Bowdoin offers five unique programs: Instrumental, Fellowship, Collaborative Piano, String Quartet, and Composition.
The Instrumental program encourages growth as a solo and chamber musician through private lessons, studio classes, chamber coachings, and ample performance opportunities. Open to all (typical is 13-30), participants can attend for a 3-week or 6-week session. Scholarships are available.
The Fellowship program is open to musicians over 21, who will collaborate and perform with fellow advanced musicians and faculty and receive mentorship from Artistic Directors David and Phillip Ying. The 6-week program is fully funded.
The Composition program offers lessons, discussions, lectures, and workshops with composer-in-residence Derek Bermel and guest artists. The 6-week program is open to all (typical is 18+).
The Collaborative Piano program is another fully-funded fellowship that schedules private lessons with program director Pei-Shan Lee, studio classes, masterclasses, and ample performances. It is a 6-week program, open to those 21+.
The String Quartet program is 6-weeks and open to pre-formed string quartets. This fully-funded opportunity encourages groups to explore string quartet repertoire with the mentorship of in-residence faculty and guest quartets. Open to pre-formed string quartets.
