Aram Khachaturian Violin Concerto in D minor premiered on this day in 1940 – 76 years ago.

The first performance was given by Soviet virtuoso David Oistrakh – in Moscow.

Immediately well received, the concerto was awarded the prestigious 1941 Stalin Arts Prize.
