Australian Chamber Orchestra Announces 2025 Emerging Artists
Six young string players will be mentored by members of the orchestra and perform in the ACO Collective ensemble
Founded in 2005, the Australian Chamber Orchestra’s (ACO) Emerging Artist Program for young string players has welcomed six new artists from around Australia.
As part of the year-long program, these players will receive one-to-one mentorship from ACO musicians, plus take part in professional side-by-side concert opportunities.
The selected players are:
- Harry Egerton (violin)
- Louise Turnbull (violin)
- Fiona Qiu (violin)
- Isabella Bignasca (viola)
- Jack Overall (cello)
- Oakley Paul (double bass)
The 2025 emerging artists will also rehearse and perform as members of the ACO Collective touring ensemble. Led by Helena Rathbone, this ensemble will also participate in a range of community engagement initiatives — especially in regional Australia.
Additionally, the artists will be joining the ACO as it celebrates its 50th anniversary season and 20th season of the Emerging Artists Program.
“I am so looking forward to having those immersive experiences playing within the ACO ensembles,” Overall said. “So much of my musical knowledge has come from soaking up the playing of professionals in different contexts, really trying to match all of their nuances,” he continued. “Those experiences are so invaluable in gaining performance knowledge and experience, and the ACO Emerging Artist program will provide more of those golden experiences.”
“Every musician I’ve seen come out of the ACO Emerging Artist Program has gone on to achieve incredible things in their careers,” Qiu added. “For me, it’s more than just an opportunity to grow as a musician — it’s a chance to be part of an Australian music community that pushes you to reach your full potential.”
