Australian Chamber Orchestra Appoints Tim Yu to Violin Section
Yu previously served as the ensemble's Emerging Artist
Led by Artistic Director Richard Tognetti, the Australian Chamber Orchestra consists of 17 musicians and was founded by cellist John Painter in November 1975.
The newest addition to the ensemble is violinist Tim Yu. He previously served as the ensemble's Emerging Artist in 2020 and 2021.
He has performed as a casual violinist with the ACO, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, and Opera Australia.
A graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where he studied with Alice Waten, Yu has performed in masterclasses with Midori Gotō and Mauricio Fuks.
He previously served as the Concertmaster of the Sydney Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra and has worked with Günter Pichler, Jun Iwasaki, Frank Huang, Oliver Wille, Marcus Becker, Daniel Müller-Schott and Storioni Trio in string quartets and piano trios.
He was the Sydney Symphony Orchestra Fellow in addition to the winner of the 2018 Gisborne International Music Competition and 2021 Kendall National Violin Competition.
Tim performs on an 1800 violin made by Raffaele & Antonio Gagliano.
