Australian conductor Richard Gill has passed away from colorectal and peritoneal cancer – aged 76.

A graduate of the Mozarteum University Salzburg, Maestro Gill served on faculty of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and the Western Australian Conservatorium of Music – and as long term Director of Chorus of Opera Australia.

In 2005, he founded and was the inaugural Artistic Director of Victoria Opera.
