Australian-born violinist and teacher Pamela Dowsett has passed away from cancer – aged 74.
A graduate of the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, where she studied with Jan Sedivka, Pamela served as long time Principal 1st Violinist with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra – and held a teaching position on faculty at the University of Otago, in New Zealand.
“Very sad to hear of the passing of my wonderful former violin teacher, Pamela Dowsett …” Dr. Robin Wilson from the Australian National Academy of Music has today said.
“She was such an inspiration to me and her many students whom she taught over the years … her knowledge, skill and infectious wit were so compelling and her bravery and tenacity in the last year were equally awe-inspiring,” he has said.
Our condolences are with Ms Dowsett’s family, friends, colleagues and students.
