Dutch violinist and conductor Jaap Schröder has passed away – aged 94.

Mr Schröder served as longtime Music Director and Concertmaster of the Academy of Ancient Music, in London – and the Smithsonian Chamber Players, in Washington D.C.

He was a founding member of the the Quartetto Esterhazy, Smithson String Quartet and the Skálholt Quartet – and held teaching positions on faculty at Yale University, the Peabody Conservatory and the Banff School of the Arts.

Our condolences are with Mr. Schröder’s family, friends, students and colleagues.
