BBC Philharmonic Orchestra Presents Virtual Video Game Music Concert
Alongside BBC Radio 3, the orchestra will present a free virtual, live concert on November 23, 2024
The BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and BBC Radio 3 have partnered to present an innovative virtual concert titled “The Sound of Gaming.” The live event for fans across the UK will be performed by the BBC Philharmonic on November 23 at 4 PM GMT.
This concert has been developed exclusively for BBC Radio 3’s pilot project, Sound of Gaming. Working with BBC Research & Development in the MAX–R project with Improbable, the event will allow audience members to attend the concert virtually as avatars directly from their browsers.
Hosted by Elle Osili-Wood and conducted by the award-winning video game music conductor and composer Eímear Noone, the concert will feature music from the video games, including Fortnite, Baldur’s Gate, World of Warcraft, and God of War Ragnarök.
Additionally, virtual attendees will be able to interact and connect with other avatars and gaming music fans, virtually explore the BBC Philharmonic’s studios, and access exclusive behind-the-scenes content.
Fans can also learn more about the orchestra by interacting with the instruments on display and having their avatar conduct, clap, and even fly along to the music while they perform.
The virtual concert can be accessed here. The concert will also be available for 30 days on BBC Sounds.
Tickets for the live in-person performance are available for £6.50 here. The event will be filmed at the BBC Philharmonic Studio in Media City, Salford.
“We look forward to welcoming not only an audience listening live on Radio 3 and in the BBC Philharmonic studios but ALSO those attending as avatars!” said BBC Radio 3. “Who knows, you might even bump into some people you know backstage in exclusive interview room pods!”
“There's nothing like the thrill of hearing the BBC Philharmonic, especially as they dive into new territory with the energy and precision that has made them one of the most versatile orchestras in the country,” added the BBC Philharmonic’s Director, Adam Szabo in the press release. “The Sound of Gaming concert project continues our commitment to making world-class classical music accessible to the widest possible audience. It reflects our dedication to creativity and innovation, bringing audiences closer to the music they love in new ways and connecting with new audiences in ways that are both meaningful and inspiring.”
