Calgary Philharmonic Names Juliane Gallant as New Resident Conductor

The New Brunswick native will step into the role at the opening of the 2023/24 season

Canadian conductor Juliane Gallant was selected from a pool of applicants from across Canada, following interviews and auditions at the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO).

A native of New Brunswick, Gallant has recently appeared with Symphony New Brunswick, the Kingston Symphony, and the Okanagan Symphony. She was one of two conductors to take part in the inaugural Women in Musical Leadership (WML) program, and made her CPO debut in this capacity.

Gallant has recently returned to Canada following a period in London, where she studied at the National Opera Studio and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. An opera specialist, she has spent time working as a collaborative pianist, répétiteur, and vocal coach.

As part of the Resident Conductor role at the CPO, Gallant will work closely with the orchestra's education programs — including PhilKids, Education Concerts, Symphony Sundays for Kids, and community concerts. She will also lead several of the orchestra's mainstage performances.
