The 10 Senior and 9 Junior Semi-Finalists have been announced for the 2019 22nd Annual Sphinx Competition
The 10 Senior and 9 Junior Semi-Finalists have been announced for the 2019 22nd Annual Sphinx Competition - to be held in Detroit, United States from the 30th of January to the 2nd of February.
The annual competition, open to American Black and Latino Junior High, High School and College students, is aimed at the encouragement, development and recognition of classical music talent in the Black and Latino communities.
2018 Senior Semi-Finalists are:
- 22-year-old violinist Paul Aguilar
- 24-year-old cellist Laura Andrade
- 26-year-old violinist Luis Eduardo Cuevas
- 19-year-old cellist Sterling Elliott
- 26-year-old violist Caleb Georges
- 26-year-old violinist Allison Lovera
- 20-year-old cellist Gabriel Martins
- 29-year-old violinist Aisha Syed
- 18-year-old violinist Hannah White
- 21-year-old violinist Adé Williams
2018 Junior Semi-Finalists are:
- 17-year-old violinist Claire Arias-Kim
- 16-year-old violinist Sophia Ayer
- 16-year-old cellist Isaac Camara
- 13-year-old cellist Vincent Garcia-Hettinger
- 16-year-old violinist Sofia Matthews
- 16-year-old cellist Maxwell Remmer
- 17-year-old violist Mikel Rollet
- 16-year-old violist Sophia Ines Valenti
- 17-year-old cellist Nygel Witherspoon
This year’s Senior 1st prize winner will receive US $50,000.
Previous 1st prize winners include VC Young Artist, double-bassist Xavier Foley.
