Cellist Amit Peled Loaned a 1780 Storioni Cello

The c. 1780 instrument, which was last played on by Zlatomir Fung, has been loaned to him for a short time for promotion purposes

The Israeli-American cellist Amit Peled will play on a c. 1780 cello by the Cremonese maker Lorenzo Storioni, thanks to a generous loan by a couple in Boston.

The instrument has not been played in public since 2019, when VC Artist Zlatomir Fung performed on it at the International Tchaikovsky Competition — which he ultimately went on to win.

Peled will only play on the cello for a brief period so that the public can hear it once again and become familiar with its history. His first performance on the instrument was at a recital in San Diego towards the end of January.

A prominent soloist, Peled regularly performs in venues such as Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall at the Lincoln Center in New York, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C., Salle Gaveau in Paris, Wigmore Hall in London, Seoul Arts Center in Korea, and the Konzerthaus Berlin, Germany.

Peled is also a professor at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, and has taught masterclasses across the world.

He has cultivated a significant discography, with more than a dozen recordings — on the Naxos, Centaur, Delos, and CTM Classics labels — to his name.

You can hear a sample of Peled playing the instrument below:
