The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center has today announced Welsh-born composer and pianist Huw Watkins as the recipient of the $25,000 Elise L. Stoeger Prize.
Awarded biennially since 1987 in recognition of significant contributions to the field of chamber music composition, nominations for the prize are collected from presenters, composers, managers, musicians and educators in the field.
Huw currently serves on the teaching faculty at London’s Royal College of Music and has been a long-time collaborator with the Society.
CMS will premiere a new piano quintet by the composer as part of their 2018-19 season.
Previous recipients include prominent composers Gunther Schuller, Oliver Knussen, Chen Yi, Brett Dean and Thomas Larcher.
