Chinese conductor and flutist Maestro Han Zhongjie has passed away in Beijing - aged 97.
A graduate of the China National Conservatory and the Leningrad Conservatory, he served as long-term music director of the Chinese Central Philharmonic.
Maestro Zhongjie will be remembered as the first conductor to lead a foreign tour with a Chinese orchestra, and the first Chinese native to conduct the Boston Symphony in 1980 - soon after China normalized relations with the United States.
Our condolences are with his family, friends, colleagues and students.
