Christoph Poppen Joins Faculty at Reina Sofía School of Music
The German violinist and conductor will serve as a professor at the Madrid-based school beginning in the 2021-22 academic year
Poppen will be one of three chair people helping out with the Telefónica Violin Chairs, which aids violinists from around the globe to study at Reina Sofía School of Music. About 210 violinists of 40 different nationalities have been trained at the institution.
A graduate of the Robert Schumann Hochschule, Poppen was also a student of Kurt Schäffer and Oskar Shumsky. He later founded the award-winning Cherubini Quartet, and eventually became the conductor and artistic director of the Munich Chamber Orchestra.
His teachings and professorships extend throughout Germany with fellowships, violin, and chamber music. He has primarily taught violinists and chamber music, but also has experience providing advice to young entrepreneurs in music.
