City Music Foundation Announces 2021 CMF Artists
Eleven artists were selected to be part of the two-year professional and artistic development program
The 2021 CMF Artists are Connaught Brass, Ensemble Hesperi, sopranos Harriet Burns, Laura Perešivana, and Olivia Boen, saxophonist Helena Kay, percussionist James Larter, cellist Joy Lisney, flutist Sirius Chau, pianist Victor Lim, and violinist Yume Fujise.
Chosen from a recording-breaking number of applicants, these eleven artists were selected to be part of the 9th consecutive two-year program. The artists were chosen due to their outstanding talent, regardless of instrument or genre.
Dr. Clare Taylor, Managing Director of CMF said, “As the music industry comes back to life after the pandemic, CMF received more applications than ever from exceptionally accomplished young professional performers. We are thrilled to be in a position to enroll more soloists and ensembles on the Artist Programme than ever. This is a time of unusual challenges, but also of great opportunities and we hugely look forward to helping the 2021 CMF Artists as they reconnect and establish their careers.”
The judges included Sholto Kynoch, Howard Williams, Seb Scotney, Kit Downes, Leslie East, Mats Lidstrom, Louise Williams, Joan Rodgers, William Dazeley, Iain Burnside, Paul Edlin, and William Fong.
Current and previous CMF artists include cellist Margarita Balanas, pianist Samson Tsoy, violin & piano duo Foyle-Stsura, the Ligeti Quartet, mezzo-soprano Lotte Betts-Dean, jazz double-bassist Misha Mullov Abbado, and accordionist Bartosz Glowacki.
