Concerts Supporting Ukraine and Where You Can Find Them

Steven Isserlis and Irène Duval present a Concert for Ukraine
May 25, 7:00 PM, St Peter's Church, Belsize Square, London, UK

This concert is presented by conductor Andres Kaljuste, who will direct players from the Whittington Festival. The program features two concerti: British cellist Steven Isserlis will play Haydn's C major cello concerto, while French-Korean violinist Irène Duval is presenting Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 5 "Turkish". Isserlis has a strong link with Ukraine, as his father was born in the city of Odessa.

The artists have all donated their time to the concert, with proceeds going to UNICEF and DEF. Tickets are to cost £18 each.

 

"Strong Together" — Concert in Solidarity with Ukraine
Livestream is available until December 31, 2022

Broadcast live on Lithuania Independence Restoration Day (March 11, 2022) the concert was held at the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre (LNOBT), in Vilnius, and is now available for playback.

Under the musical direction of Ričardas Šumila and Margaryta Grynyvetska, the concert featured the LNOBT Orchestra and Choir — alongside artists such as sopranos Margarita Levchuk and Yuliya Tkachenko, prima ballerina Olesia Shaytanova, baritone Jonas Sakalauskas, tenor Edgaras Montvidas, and violinist Dainius Peseckas.

Audiences can purchase tickets to the concert here with a free IDAGIO account. Using a flex pricing model, tickets are available for 0, 5, 12, 25, 50, and 100 Euros or Dollars.

All proceeds from ticket sales and earnings will be donated to organizations that are supporting Ukrainian refugees — from this production specifically, the funds will be donated to the UN's Ukraine Humanitarian Fund.

 

In solidarity with Ukraine, pianist Anne-Gabrièle Douce recorded the video below with bassist Božo Paradžik. All funds collected with this video will be donated to the UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency. and will donate the ad funds to the UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency.

Bergen Philharmonic Performs Benefit Concert - Livestream
March 10, 7:30 PM, Grieg Hall, Bergen, Norway 

The Bergen Philharmonic and conductor Andris Poga changed its March 10 concert into a benefit performance for the people of Ukraine, with all ticket income donated to humanitarian aid.

Called "Ukraine in our Hearts – Solidarity Concert," it will now include both the Ukrainian national anthem and Prayer for Ukraine by Ukrainian composer Valentin Silvestrov. Guest artists include harpsichordist Mahan Esfahani and the Edvard Grieg choir.

The concert is streaming live on Bergenphillive for free.

 

Opéra national de Lorraine Presents "The Rights of Spring" Concert
March 10 & 11, Poirel Hall, Nancy, France

Originally in celebration of spring, the concerts are now dedicated to peace in Ukraine. The program will include composers Lili Boulanger, Claude Debussy, Edith Canat de Chizy, and Ernest Chausson.

The proceeds for the concert on Thursday, March 10, will go to FACECO — Action Ukraine (External Action Fund of Territorial Communities) — an emergency aid for the population victims of active humanitarian crises viewed by the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs.

The concert will be opened by the Ukrainian anthem to demonstrate their solidarity with the Ukrainian citizens.

The New School Presents "A Concert for Ukraine"
March 11 at 7:30 PM, The Auditorium at 66 W 12th Street, New York, New York

While this is now a free event, the school encourages you to donate the original ticket price of $50 and more if you are able, directly to the following organizations or an organization of your own choice: Save the Children, International Rescue Committee, and Razom.

The program is varied and features the violinist Laurie Anderson and saxophonist John Zorn duo, pianist Philip Glass, the New Masada Quartet, vocalist Sofia Rei, the Julian Lage Trio, and Joe Lovano and Dave Douglas' group Sound Prints.

 

DC Strings Orchestra and Old Bridge Chamber Orchestra Flash Mob Performance
March 12 at 12 PM, Lutheran Church of the Reformation, Washington D.C.

Two ensembles based in Washington, D.C. have conceived the concert as an open performance, and all musicians are welcome to bring their instruments to join in.

General admission tickets cost $25, with all proceeds from the event going to Ukrainian relief organizations including the UN Women's Relief Program.

 

Dresden Philharmonic and the Philharmonic Choirs Invites the Public to Sing for Ukraine
March 12, 5:30 PM, Neumarkt Dresden, Germany

All citizens and specifically all Dresden choirs are invited to join the musicians of the Dresden Philharmonic and Choirs to send a sign of solidarity with Ukraine. Songs will be sung together and Dirk Hilbert, mayor of the state capital Dresden, will read out the city council's resolution on the war in Ukraine.

Registration is not necessary, the lyrics to be sung will be provided at the event and are available online here.

 

Metropolitan Opera Benefit Performance "A Concert for Ukraine"
March 14, 6 PM, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, New York, New York

The Metropolitan Opera will present a benefit performance to support Ukrainian citizens under attack, with all ticket sales and donations going to support relief efforts in Ukraine. Met Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin will lead the Met Orchestra and Chorus in a 70-minute program, featuring music by Valentin Silvestrov, Barber, Verdi, Strauss, and Beethoven.

Among the featured soloists to be featured is Ukrainian bass-baritone Vladyslav Buialskyi, who will lead the Met Chorus in a performance of the Ukrainian national anthem.

If audiences are looking for more ways to help the citizens of Ukraine, the Met encourages them to visit the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine website.

 

Cellist Johannes Moser Plays for Ukraine with the Saarländisches Staatsorchester 
March 14, 2022  Congresshalle Saarbrucken, Saarbrücken, Germany 

Moser is dedicating his performance with conductor Kurt Sanderling and the Saarländisches Staatstheater to the Ukrainian people. He took to Facebook to write that, "I am donating to Save the Children and you can do it too! Anything helps the ones most in need."

 

Sweden’s Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra Performs for Ukraine
March 16, 7 PM, Helsingborg Concert Hall, Sweden

Proceeds from this performance will go toward providing humanitarian aid to those in Ukraine and the Red Cross will also be present throughout the event to raise money for their relief work.

The concert program is Lars-Erik Larsson’s Disguised God, a popular Swedish classical suite written in 1940 during WWII. Based on a text by Swedish poet Hjalmar Gullberg, the piece reflects messages of compassion and hope.

Conducted by Jakob Hultberg, other artists include Jörgen Düberg, plus soprano Elin Skorup and baritone Andreas Landin as soloists. The concert is free by registration

 

Violinist Sascha Maisky & Family Perform a Fundraising Concert
March 18, 8 PM, Musica Mundi School, Waterloo, Belgium

Join the Maisky Family as they play a fundraising concert in aid of Ukrainian refugees. Tickets are 50€ for adults and 30€ for students.

All profits will be donated to The Voices of Children Foundation, a charity organization that helps children to recover from the psychological traumas of war. Reservations can be made at [email protected] and further donations are welcome.

 

Dance for Ukraine Fundraising Gala
March 19, London Coliseum, London, England

Former Royal Ballet stars Ukrainian Ivan Putrov and Romanian Alina Cojocaru reunite and bring together an array of international dance stars, like the Principals of The Royal Ballet, English National Ballet, and Paris Opera Ballet, for a fundraising gala for Ukraine.

With both dancers' journeys originating in Kyiv, Putrov and Cojocaru wanted to show their love, admiration, and support for friends and family.

Produced by the dance charity, Inspiration in Motion, the event's net proceeds will go directly to the Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC), Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.

All participating dancers have donated their services and English National Opera have waived their rental fee for the London Coliseum.

 

Paris’s Opéra Comique Dedicates Concert to the Children of Ukraine
March 20, 7 PM, Salle Favart: National Theater of the Opéra Comique, Paris, France

For their upcoming Open Day for Families series, Opéra Comique will perform in solidarity with Ukraine, with all proceeds from the concert to be donated to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).

In partnership with Les Grandes Voix and conducted by Louis Langrée, this concert will feature singers Sabine Devieilhe, Aude Extremo, Eugénie Joneau, Julien Behr, Huw Montague Rendall, plus violinist Théotime Langlois de Swarte, lutenist Thomas Dunford, and pianist Lise de la Salle.

 

London's Royal College of Music Will Host a Benefit Concert for Ukraine
March 22, 7:30 PM, RCM Britten Theatre, London

Students and staff from the RCM will perform chamber music from around the world, inspired by the concert's theme of "Hope." The event has been organized by the RCM Student Union.

Proceeds from ticket sales will all be donated to the UK Red Cross's Disasters Emergency Committee Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.

 

Opéra Nice Côte d'Azur Organize Concert for Peace
March 22, 8PM, Opéra Nice Côte d'Azur, Nice, France

Ukrainian-born pianist Olga Monakh and her husband, French pianist Nicolas Bringuier, will perform works by Brahms, Dvořák, Fauré, Rachmaninoff, Scriabin, Tchaikovsky and Skoryk. They are joined by a range of other musicians who are associated with the Opéra.

All funds raised will go to a French association that supports Ukrainian children who are stuck in war zones.

 

Southbank Centre Stages "Slava Ukraini," a Night of Music, Poetry, and Spoken Word
March 23, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank Centre, London, UK

This concert, which is hosted by London's Southbank Centre, features writers Dr. Olesya Khromeychuk, Andrey Kurkov, and Serhiy Zhadan, musicians from the London Contemporary Orchestra, readings by actors Ben Whishaw, Jonathan Pryce, and Juliet Stevenson, and poetry by Ilya Kaminsky.

All proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), which brings together the UK's leading aid charities to respond to humanitarian crises. 13 of DEC's member charities are currently working in Ukraine.

 

Cellist Jan Vogler and Pianist Hélène Grimaud Play a Charity Concert with the Dresden Music Festival
March 24, 7:30 PM, Gläserne Manufaktur Dresden, Dresden, Germany

The duo will perform a chamber music concert in support of the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine. The concert will take place at the Gläserne Manufaktur Dresden, which was where the duo had their first concert together 17 years ago.

Presented by the Volkswagen Group, the program includes works by Schumann, Brahms, and Shostakovich. The concert will be followed by the premiere of the film "Opus 19" which provides a moving insight into the life of both musicians during the pandemic.

 

The Paris Opera to Perform “Concert for Peace”
March 27, 8 PM, Palais Garnier, Paris, France

To support the victims of the conflict in Ukraine, all artists fees and concert proceeds will be donated to Ukraine’s Alliances Urgences, a collective of six international NGOs joining forces to provide emergency assistance to those in need.
Conducted by Carlo Rizzi, the concert will feature dancers from several ballet companies and the Paris Opera chorus in an array of works by Wagner, Verdi, and Bellini among others.
Tickets are yet to be released, with prices ranging between 10 to 50 Euros.

 

Madrid Institutions Present Benefit Concert with 10 Artists
March 31, 7 PM, Fernando de Rojas Theater, Madrid, Spain

Organized by Círculo de Bellas Artes, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM), and Center for Higher Research & Promotion of Music, ten artists of different nationalities — Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Spain, Holland, Mexico and Peru — will come together in this performance to support Ukraine.

The artists include Claudio Constantini (bandoneon ), Anna Fedorova (piano), Mikhail Pochekin (violin), Dana Zemtsov (viola), Boris Fedorov (piano), Vadim Gladkov (piano), Tatiana Melnychenko (soprano), Elina Sitnikava (violin), Ihor Voievodin (bass-baritone), and Sofia Zholobova (piano).

For this program, the artists intend to demonstrate that music knows no borders. Concert proceeds will go to the Red Cross.

 

Evgeny Kissin and Friends Perform for Ukraine
April 2, 8 PM, Tonhalle Düsseldorf, Germany

Pianist Evgeny Kissin is joined by violinist Gidon Kremer and cellists Giedre Dirvanauskaite and David Geringas in this concert in Düsseldorf. The artists and hall will both waive their fees, to allow all proceeds from the event to be donated to initiatives that are providing urgently needed medicines to Ukraine.

The program revolves around Shostakovich's Piano Trio No. 2, written in 1944 to reflect the suffering of the Second World War. Additionally, a Serenade by Ukrainian composer Valentin Silvestrov will be featured, alongside works by Chopin, Igor Loboda, and Kissin himself.

 

Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra's Concert for Peace
April 2, 7:30 PM, Heinz Hall, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Music Director Manfred Honeck will lead the orchestra alongside Pittsburgh Symphony's violinist Marta Krechkovsky, pianist Leif Ove Andsnes, two Pittsburgh choirs, and Pittsburgh Resident Artists in support of humanitarian relief for the people of Ukraine.

It will also be livestreamed on the Pittsburgh Symphony’s digital platform, Front Row.

The concert is free to attend, the Pittsburgh Symphony, but the organization is asking those who attend or stream the concert to make donations for humanitarian relief in Ukraine and has partnered with the United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania for this effort.

 

Buffalo Philharmonic Presents "Slava Ukraini" Concert
April 3, 7 PM, Kleinhans Music Hall, Buffalo, NY

Led by conductor JoAnn Falletta, the performance will feature the orchestra performing music that allows for moments of quiet reflection and celebrates resiliency of spirit.

Tickets are select-your-own-price, with a suggested ask of $40 per person. All proceeds from ticket sales will help the global Red Cross movement provide humanitarian relief in response to the Ukraine crisis.

 

Concert for Peace at Milan's La Scala
April 4, 8 PM, Teatro alla Scala, Milan, Italy

Riccardo Chailly will conduct the orchestra and the theatre's choir in this performance of Rossini's Stabat Mater, with soloists Rosa Feola, Juan Diego Flórez, and Alex Esposito.

All profits from the concert will be donated to a fund organized by the Fondazione di Comunità Milano Onlus, as well as to the Italian Red Cross. These groups are helping to support Ukrainian refugees arriving in Italy. Tickets range between 10 and 95 Euros in price.

 

Young Musicians for Peace Play for Ukraine 
April 4, Musikverein Vienna, Brahms Hall, Vienna, Austria

The Young Musicians for Peace Orchestra — comprising students from Austrian music universities — will perform alongside the IGUDESMAN & JOO duo, violinist Alexey Igudesman, pianist Hyung Ki Joo, percussionist Lucy Landymore, and conductor Pablo Boggiano. Hosted by Teresa Vogl, the concert will involve works by Beethoven, Dvořák, Valentin Silvestrov, and Myroslaw Skoryk, among others.

This benefit concert for Ukraine is a show of unity and solidarity during difficult times. “The fact that war is still raging in the 21st century, in many parts of the world and now also in the heart of Europe, leaves no one indifferent,” wrote Vogl. [I] want to help and do everything I can to reduce the suffering…I’m pleased to be able to set an example by participating in this benefit concert: For peace and for the connecting element in art and music.”

 

Concerto Budapest Launches Benefit Concert Series “Embraced by the music”
March 31 - April 6, 7:30 PM, Online on Concerto Budapest Symphony Orchestra and Papageno.hu streaming services

Collaborating with the Creative Alliance — an organization uniting artists and audiences from diverse backgrounds — this series will be available online while the war in Ukraine is ongoing. On March 31, Mozart’s Five Contredances and Piano Concerto in D minor was performed by pianist Angela Hewitt. On April 2, Mozart’s Symphony No. 39 and Allegro in D major was presented. 

On April 4, Mihály Berecz played Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 alongside Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7. Finally, on April 6, Kristóf Baráti will perform Brahms’ Violin Concerto in D major, which can be live-streamed here.

While watching the four concerts, all necessary information will be displayed on the screen so that you can send donations to the given humanitarian organizations to help the  Ukrainian refugees in a secure, safe, and trackable way.

 

Lucerne Festival Orchestra's Benefit Concert
April 9, 7:30 PM, KKL Luzern Concert Hall, Lucerne, Switzerland

The concert will feature violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter, cellist Kian Soltani, and pianist Yulianna Avdeeva alongside soloists of the Lucerne Festival orchestra. 

In a program of Mendelssohn, Schumann, and Shostakovich, the proceeds from ticket sales for the benefit concert will go to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement for the support of those suffering in Ukraine and refugees in neighboring countries.

 

North American Music Conservatories Present: Unite for Ukraine – A Virtual Benefit Concert
April 16, 3 PM ET, streamed here on The Violin Channel

This “Unite for Ukraine” concert will feature emerging artists from eight of the top music schools across the U.S. and Canada, including Cleveland Institute of Music, Colburn School, Curtis Institute of Music, Manhattan School of Music, New England Conservatory, New World Symphony, Royal Conservatory of Music, and San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

Filmed across North America, the concert will feature works by Schubert, Bartók, Paul Taffanel, Miroslav Skoryk, and David Popper, as well as those by students from the eight conservatories.

The free virtual performance invites viewers to donate to various organizations providing support for Ukraine, including:

 

New England Conservatory Presents Concerts to Support Ukraine
April 17, and May 11, 2022, NEC: Jordan Hall, Boston, Massachusetts

These concerts will feature pianists Evgeny Kissin and Sergei Babayan, alongside members of the New England Conservatory (NEC) faculty.

On April 17, acclaimed guest artist pianists Stanislav Khristenko, Babayan, and Andrius Žlabys will perform with NEC faculty including Miriam Fried, Kim Kashkashian, Paul Biss, and NEC quartet-in-residence, the Borromeo String Quartet. Featured works include those by Brahms and Bach.

On May 11, Kissin will present a solo piano concert with Chopin’s works as well as his own string quartet work as a display of solidarity and hope. Both these concerts are free with RSVP; click here to donate to and support Ukraine.

“We stand with Ukraine and are in awe of the bravery and love for country and culture that Ukrainians are displaying in the face of this horrendous act of war,” NEC’s president Andrea Kalyn said in the press release. “We offer these concerts in solidarity on behalf of NEC for Ukraine and its people.”

 

Baltimore Symphony Orchestra To Perform Benefit Concert For Ukraine
April 21, 7 PM, Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, Baltimore, Maryland

Collaborating with the Creative Alliance — an organization uniting artists and audiences from diverse backgrounds — the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) will raise money for the people of war-torn Ukraine with their performance.

Conducted by Jonathon Heyward the program will include works by Verbytsky, Brahms, Ravel, Smetana, Valentyn Silvestrov, Beethoven, and Mussorgsky. The concert hall where the performance will be held was named after Joseph Meyerhoff, who emigrated from Ukraine to Baltimore as a child and later gifted the venue to the BSO. Tickets for the show will be pay-what-you-wish, starting at $10, with proceeds donated to the International Rescue Committee.

 

Symphoria musicians to perform benefit concert for Ukrainian refugees

April 23, 7.30PM, The Church of the Most Holy Rosary, 111 Roberts Ave., Syracuse

To show their solidarity with the people of Ukraine, Symphoria musicians from the orchestra of Central New York will be holding a performance to raise funds for Ukrainian refugee resettlement in Central New York.

Showcasing Symphoria’s acting concertmaster, violin soloist Sonya Stith Williams (performing Henryk Wieniawski's “Légende”) and conductor Taras Krysa, they will be joined by choirs from Syracuse’s Ukrainian community churches and the ODESA Ukrainian Dance Ensemble of Syracuse on stage in a program celebrating music by Ukrainian composers, including Mykola Lysenko’s 2002 “Prayer For Ukraine.”

Tickets for this concert are free at experiencesymphoria.org, but audience members, whether in person or online, are encouraged to donate to a dedicated fund set up by InterFaith Works of Central New York, which will help displaced persons who arrive in the area.

 

Free Benefit “Concert In Solidarity With Ukraine” 
May 1, 6:30 PM, Robert Frost Auditorium, Culver City, California

Acclaimed concert series Jacaranda and Music at the Wende have partnered for this concert to raise funds for and support the millions of refugees displaced from their homes. The event will feature a roster of Ukrainian classical musicians as well as works by classical Ukrainian, Russian, and Polish composers — including Valentin Silvestrov and Jan Freidlin, plus the late Miroslav Skoryk, Reinhold Gliere, Sergei Prokofiev, Dmitri Shostakovich, and Henryk Gorecki.

While the concert is free, donations will be solicited during the concert to raise funds for Direct Relief services supporting critical health care for victims of the war in Ukraine.

“Ukrainian culture, history and identity are under attack by Russia, but we can share and celebrate the music, poetry, and art here while helping address the physical suffering of Ukrainian refugees in Europe,” said Thomas Small, CEO of Culver City Forward.

 

London’s Wigmore Hall Presents Fundraising Concert for Ukraine
May 5, 7:30 PM, Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, Duke St, London, England

Wigmore Hall will host this fundraising concert at its neighboring venue, the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral. Featuring works by  Schubert, Purcell, J.S. Bach, and Beethoven, the performance will include singers Ailish Tynan and Mark Padmore; lutist Elizabeth Kenny; violinists Irène Duval, Sini Simonen, and Hannah Dawson; violist Hélène Clément; and cellist Christopher Graves, among others.

All ticket sales will go to direct aid partners on the ground, a network including development charity, The Catholic Agency for Overseas Development (CAFOD), and the British Red Cross. Opportunities to donate on the night of the concert will also be available.

 

New England Conservatory Presents Concerts to Support Ukraine
May 11, 4:30 PM, NEC: Jordan Hall, Boston, Massachusetts

This concert will feature pianist Evgeny Kissin alongside members of the New England Conservatory (NEC) faculty.
