French orchestral and operatic conductor Georges Pretre has passed away in his home in France – aged 92.
Throughout his seven decade career, he led many of the world’s finest orchestras – including New York’s Metropolitan Opera, Opéra-Comique, La Scala, the Vienna Symphony, Paris Opera and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
BEETHOVEN | SYMPHONY NO. 7 | GEORGE PRETRE | VIENNA SYMPHONY
Maestro Pretre twice conducted the Vienna Philharmonic’s New Year’s Day Concerts – in 2008 and 2010.
He will also be remembered in history for having given the premiere performances of Francis Poulenc’s ‘La voix humaine’ and the ‘Sept répons de ténèbres’.
Our condolences are with his family, friends and colleagues.
