Dalia Stasevska Extends Contract as Principal Guest Conductor at the BBC Symphony Orchestra
Stasevska, who became both the youngest person and the first woman to hold the post in 2019, will remain there until at least September 2027
The Finnish conductor Dalia Stasevska has received a contract extension at the BBC Symphony Orchestra, where she has served as Principal Guest Conductor since 2019. At the time of her appointment, she was the youngest person ever to hold the role, as well as being the first woman to do so. The new contract expires in September 2027.
Stasevska is also presently the Principal Conductor of the Lahti Symphony Orchestra and will remain there until at least July 2025. She has held the post since 2021, alongside a position as Artistic Director of the Sibelius Festival.
A past student of Jorma Panula and Leif Segerstam, Stasevska has made several appearances at the BBC Proms, including at the First Night of the Proms in 2023. She has led the orchestra on tours of Japan, Germany, and the UK, as well as performances at the Barbican Hall.
Her 2024 solo debut album, Dalia’s Mixtape, also featured the BBC Symphony Orchestra and was released on the Platoon label.
In the most recent season, she made guest conducting appearances with the Cleveland Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Danish National Symphony Orchestra, hr-Sinfonieorchester, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Seattle Symphony Orchestra, Berner Symphonieorchester, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, and West Australian Symphony Orchestra.
"We’re delighted that Principal Guest Conductor Dalia Stasevska’s contract has been extended to September 2027, and look forward to continuing this exciting and fruitful musical relationship," the BBC Symphony Orchestra said in a statement.
