Heifetz International Music Institute Artistic Director Daniel Heifetz is set to step down in August 2019

It has been announced this week that Heifetz International Music Institute Artistic Director Daniel Heifetz is set to step down from the helm in August 2019.

Mr Heifetz, 69, launched the six-week intensive summer string academy at Mary Baldwin University in Staunton, Virginia, in 1996.

He will continue to work with the programme as Artistic Director Emeritus.

Daniel Heifetz, a believed distant relation to luminary Jascha Heifetz, has indicated his 22 years with the institute served as the framework for what he says the academy has become - and that it will hopefully "continue beyond me and move forward to inspire future generations of artists and audiences."

The Heifetz Institute's Board of Directors has indicated a committee has begun the international search to find a successor.
