Dutch Orchestra Residentie Orchestra Appoints New Chief Conductor

German conductor Anja Bihlmaier succeeds Nicholas Collon in the role effective August 2021


Bihlmaier is a graduate of the Freiburg Conservatory of Music, where she studied with Scott Sandmeier. After her studies, she won a myriad of scholarships and prizes, including from the Brahms Foundation, the International Dimitris Mitropoulos Competition, and the Donatella Flick Competition.

More recently, Bihlmaier conducted the Deutches Symphonie-Orchester in Berlin, the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, and more.

Future engagements, aside from the Orchestra Residentie, include those with the Birmingham Symphony and BBC Scottish Symphony.

Bilhmaier has a wide variety of repertoire under her belt, including orchestral and opera conducting engagements.
