Dutch Violinist Emmy Verhey Has Announced Her Retirement

It has been announced that 65 year old Dutch violin virtuoso Emmy Verhey is set to retire from the concert stage at the conclusion of 2014/2015 season.

A recognised child prodigy, Ms Verhey still today holds the record for the youngest ever prize winner at the Tchaikovsky International Violin Competition.

A student of Herman Krebbers, Bela DekanyWolfgang Schneiderhan and David Oistrakh, she has performed extensively throughout her 54 year international career - and has served a long-term distinguished teaching position at the Utrecht Conservatory.

For much of her performance career, Ms Verhey concertized on the 1723 'Earl Spencer' Stradivarius – now on loan to Scottish violinist Nicola Benedetti.
