FLASHBACK FRIDAY | Lisa Batiashvili Performs Sibelius' Violin Concerto, in 2007
The Georgian-born violinist will perform the same concerto today LIVE from Ingolstadt, Germany at 2:30 PM (ET) as part of the 2021 Audi Sommerkonzerte Festival — streamed on The Violin Channel
In this video, Lisa Batiashvili performs the Sibelius Violin Concerto in D minor with conductor Sakari Oramo and the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Helsinki in 2007. Lisa was 28-years-old at the time and a recent graduate of the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg.
"Honestly, I never look and listen to my old recordings and I try not to look back at the past, but I do often remember the feelings of concerts and how I felt at the time," Lisa this week told The Violin Channel ahead of her Audi Sommerkonzerte performance.
"I do recall, this particular performance of the Sibelius Concerto was from a concert I played in Finland the very day before I made my very first concerto recording, so I can definitely remember the intense feeling of excitement coupled with alertness."
"I feel now, 14 years on, that my life and performance experience has probably made me more lively, flexible, interactive and spontaneous with whoever I am standing on stage with at the time – and most importantly, taught me to never be afraid to play the way I feel right then and there at that exact moment," Lisa said.
