Former Columbia Artists Director Andrew S. Grossman has Died, Aged 80
Grossman served as vice president of the Columbia Artists Management Inc. agency
Andrew Grossman was formerly the senior vice president, tour producer, and director of sales at New York City’s Columbia Artists Management (CAMI), which was founded in 1930 but closed down operations in 2020.
Grossman was a major figure representing artists on CAMI’s roster, which included Deana Martin, Herbert von Karajan, Leonard Bernstein, Vladimir Horowitz, Van Cliburn, Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Muti, Seiji Ozawa, Mstislav Rostropovich, Maurizio Pollini, José Carreras, as well as the ballet dancer Rudolf Nureyev.
In a 2011 New York Times article, Grossman was referred to as an influential figure in the classical music business and “a lightning rod for strong emotions,” and his former colleagues, competitors, and contractors saw him as a “shrewd businessman, both brilliant and capable of great charm.”
He is most remembered for his significant contributions to the performing arts, in particular in managing international orchestral tours.
“Dear Andrew Grossman, we have worked together for many years (25), you have taught me a lot and I will always be grateful to you,” the CEO of Daniel Artists, Rosario Bauza posted on Facebook. “I will miss you, one day we will meet again in another universe. May you rest in peace!”
Our condolences to Mr. Grossman’s family, friends, and colleagues.
