It has been announced today that Austrian conductor Franz Welser-Möst has resigned from his position as Music Director of the Vienna State Opera.

Welser-Möst, 54 has not stated publicly any specific details, beyond: "irreconcilable differences of opinion" over artistic matters.

Vienna State Opera Director, Dominique Meyer has issued a statement indicating he has reluctantly accepted a letter of resignation from Franz Welser-Möst, at 10am this morning – effective immediately.
