Violin Maker Gabor Draskoczy Sweeps Rare Golden Double at Violin Society of America Awards

The competition prizes have been announced at the 2016 Violin Society of America International Instrument and Bow Making Competition, in Cleveland – with coveted dual gold medals, for both ‘Violin Tone’ and ‘Violin Workmanship’, awarded to London-based luthier Gabor Draskoczy.

Silver Medals for ‘Violin Workmanship’ were awarded to makers Justin Hess, Yunhai Xu, Piotr Pielaszek, Rainer Beilharz, Andrew Ryan and Jinlong Yang.

Gold Medals in the ‘Violin Bow’ category were awarded to Cody Kowalski, Emmanuel Bégin and Emmanuel Carlier.

Gold Medals for the ‘Viola Bow’ category were awarded to Eric Fournier, Cody Kowalski and Emmanuel Bégin.

A Gold Medals for the ‘Cello Bow’ category were awarded to: Cody Kowalski and Emmanuel Bégin.

Founded in 1973, the Violin Society of America is a non-profit organisation created for the purpose of promoting the art and science of making, repairing and preserving stringed musical instruments and bows.

This year’s judges included Robert Cauer, Amos Hargrave, Wendela Moes, Jeff Phillips, Kelvin Scott, Paul Wiessmeyer, Noel Burke, Rodney Mohr, Robert Morrow, Annie Fullard, Elmar Oliveira, Mari Sato, Lisa Boyko, Richard Waugh, Eric Wong, Ralph Curry, Jia Kim, Thomas Mansbacher, Mark Atherton, Scott Haigh, Henry Peyrebrune, the Cavani Quartet, Annie Fullard, Mari Sato, Eric Wong and Jia Kim.
