25-year-old harpist Rachel Lee Hall has been awarded 1st prize at the 2019 Houston Symphony Ima Hogg Competition – in Houston, Texas, United States.
A graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she studied with Yolanda Kondonassis, Rachel will receive USD $25,000 – plus a concerto performance with the Houston Symphony.
2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to 25-year-old cellist Coleman Itzkoff and 23-year-old harpist Chloe Tula.
Open to US-based pianists, violinists, violists, cellists, double bassists, flutists, oboists, clarinetists, bassoonists, hornists, trumpeters, trombonists, tubists, harpists and marimbists aged 16 and 26 who do not currently hold orchestral positions, previously 1st prize winners include: VC Young Artist Luke Hsu.
The 2019 jury comprised: David Lockington, Matthew VanBesien and Soyeon Kate Lee.
