Hungarian composer and violinist Karl Goldmark died on this day in 1915 – aged 84.
Largely self-taught as a composer, his signature works include the opera ‘Die Königin von Saba’, his ‘Rustic Wedding’ Symphony – and his Violin Concerto No.1 in A Minor.
Interestingly, he served as Jean Sibelius’ violin teacher for a brief time.
