Itzhak Perlman Documentary Release

It has been announced that the new documentary film, ‘Itzhak’, about the life of violin virtuoso Itzhak Perlman, is to be released in coming weeks at over 70 theaters across the United States – following a successful opening last week in New York City.

Directed by filmmaker Alison Chernick, the film was recently presented the ‘Audience Award’ for Best Documentary Film at the 2018 Atlanta and Miami Jewish Film Festivals – and the ‘Best of Fest’ accolade at the 2018 Palm Springs International Film Festival.

“I’m thrilled that this film is getting such a wide release nationwide with such positive reviews … it was pure joy to make and to see it received so well …” Director, Alison Chernick has told The Violin Channel.

“Itzhak Perlman’s musical gifts with violin and bow are legion, so any documentary on him is sure to be fortified with performance pleasure … what’s especially appealing about Alison Chernick’s Itzhak, however, is how much time we spend with his personality … which radiates joy about art, thoughtfulness when he reflects on his life as the polio-surviving prodigy who made good, happiness around loved ones, and passion for teaching,” Robert Abele of the LA Times has said.

“Itzhak is a joyous film about a joyous man … it’s a compact and immensely likable look at virtuoso violinist Itzhak Perlman … it’s less concerned with covering the totality of his life and career than evoking his life force, which is good-humored, earthy and inspiring,” Matt Zoller Seitz of the Rogerebert has said.

“Whether you’re a classical music fan or not, this sneak peek into the life of an iconic New Yorker will inspire wonder … of art, music, family … and maybe even a renewed dedication to your passion,” John Seroff from What Should We Do has said.

“The music in the documentary is wonderful, of course … and it helps you understand why Perlman is among the two or three best-known classical musicians in the nonclassical world,” John Anderson of America Magazine has said.
