German-born cellist Jan Vogler has this week announced he is set to host a 24-hour livestream marathon event - to raise funds for a number of New York artist charities.
Beginning at 6pm on Friday, March 27th, the series of performances will include: Adele Anthony, Inon Barnatan, Alessio Bax, Joshua Bell, Brentano Quartet, Lucille Chung, Anthony Roth Costanzo, Jeremy Denk, Bela Fleck, Colin Jacobsen, Eric Jacobsen, The Knights, Midori, Nico Muhly, Aoife O’Donovan, Sandbox Percussion, Tiffany Poon, Pablo Sáinz Villegas, Gil Shaham, Arnaud Sussman, Chris Thile, Michael Thurber, Nina Totenberg, Danbi Um, Jan Vogler, Mira Wang, Abigail Washburn - and VC Artists Benjamin Beilman Zlatomir Fung, Paul Huang, Tessa Lark, Nathan Meltzer and Kevin Zhu.
The 24-hour marathon will be streamed live on The Violin Channel.
"The Coronavirus global crisis has changed all of our lives drastically and has shut down every performing arts institution and venue we artists call our homes ..." the 56-year-old New York-based cellist has said.
"While practicing at home on the Upper West Side, I realized that we can still contribute something during the fight against this pandemic …” he has said.
“We will all unite to send a musical message of courage, empathy, friendship, hope and love from New York to the entire world ... we also encourage those watching to support various New York charitable causes that directly benefit New York-based artists.”
