Janine Jansen Cancels Carnegie Hall Recital
An unfortunate fall has left the violinist with a wrist injury, and the recital is yet to be rescheduled
Violinist Janine Jansen has withdrawn from a duo recital at Carnegie Hall alongside pianist Denis Kozhukhin because of a wrist injury due to a recent fall.
The recital was scheduled for Tuesday, December 10, with the program covering works by Clara Schumann, Robert Schumann, and Johannes Brahms.
In a statement, Carnegie Hall said the recital will not be rescheduled. Audience members who purchased tickets with a credit card will be automatically refunded, while those who paid in cash should go to the box office to receive their refunds.
At the time of publishing, Jansen has not made a public comment on the injury.
An acclaimed soloist, Janine Jansen has performed and toured with major international orchestras worldwide; she records exclusively with Decca Classics, and many of her albums are critically acclaimed.
Her recital and chamber music partners have included Leif Ove Andsnes, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Itamar Golan, Kathryn Stott, Julian Rachlin, Maxim Rysanov, Torleif Thedéen, and Mischa Maisky, among others.
The founder and artistic director of the International Chamber Music Festival Utrecht, Jansen has also been a professor at HÉMU Sion (Haute École de Musique Vaud Valais Fribourg) since 2019.
Among her accolades include the Herbert von Karajan Prize, Johannes Vermeer Prize, Royal Philharmonic Society Instrumentalist Award, five Edison Klassiek Awards, plus the German Record Critics’ Prize, NDR Music Prize, Concertgebouw Prize, and Bremen MusikFest Prize.
Jansen studied with Coosje Wijzenbeek, Philipp Hirshhorn, and Boris Belkin. She plays on a 1715 “Shumsky/Rode” Stradivarius violin, loaned to her by a European patron.
We wish Janine a speedy recovery!
