John Adams Awarded Glashütte Original Music Festival Prize
Donated annually by watch manufacturer Glashütte Original, the award is given to outstanding figures in the music industry who have made special contributions to teaching classical music and promoting young talent
The American composer and conductor was endowed with €25,000 as part of the Dresden Music Festival.
The award ceremony this year will take place in New York City on May 30, 2021 will be broadcast live. At the concert, the Knights will play under the baton of Eric Jacobsen — plus violinist Gil Shaham and pianist Timo Andres will perform as soloists.
Previous winners of the Glashütte Original Music Festival Prize include Hilary Hahn, Hélène Grimaud, Joyce DiDonato, and Joshua Bell.
"With his music, John Adams has inspired generations of composers, musicians and listeners," said Jan Vogler, Artistic Director of the Dresden Music Festival.
"We are very happy to be able to honor one of the great composers of our time with this year's 'Glashütte Original MusikFestspielPreis,' who also has many fans in Germany."
