Korean Tenor Sehoon Moon has Died, Aged 40
Moon sang regularly at the Glyndebourne Festival and at Malmö Opera
The young Korean tenor Sehoon Moon passed away suddenly, at just 40 years of age.
A graduate of Dankook University in Seoul, Moon also studied at the renowned Accademia Teatro alla Scala in Milan. He was the recipient of prestigious prizes at a number of international singing competitions — including winning the Third Prize and the Audience Award at the Tenor Viñas International Singing Contest.
His career took off in 2017 when he appeared at Glyndebourne as a substitute in the role of Italian Singer (Der Rosenkavalier). Since then he has been a regular fixture at the festival, singing Ernesto, Nemorino, and Rodolfo (La Bohème) and once again substituting in an acclaimed new production directed by Floris Visser.
Moon has also sung several roles in Malmö, including Alfredo (La Traviata), Fenton (Falstaff), and Roméo (Roméo et Juliette). Appearances further afield include roles at the Royal Opera House Muscat in Oman, the Bolshoi Theatre, and the Grand Theatre in Poznań.
Our condolences to Moon's family, friends, and colleagues.
"We are devastated by the loss of our Korean tenor Sehoon Moon, who left us on Wednesday," wrote Sono Artists, Moon's management. "Sehoon, whom we represented since 2017, was an angel of a person, the kindest of souls, who touched everyone who knew him with his personality and voice of extraordinary beauty, and sense of style."
"I met him at the Vinas Competition, and there he won the Audience Prize and 3rd Prize, among many others. He sang many roles at Glyndebourne, and in particular debuted Rodolfo there in 2022 during the pandemic, to great acclaim. He also sang many roles with Malmö Opera, and was absolutely adored in that house."
"We are all immensely sad to lose this very special artist and person."
