Violinist Lisa Batiashvili Awarded Musical America's 'Instrumentalist of the Year'
35 year old Georgian violin virtuoso Lisa Batiashvili has today been announced as Musical America's coveted 'Instrumentalist of the Year'.
The 'Artist of the Year' accolade has been presented to opera director Peter Sellars.
The 'Composer of the Year' accolade has been presented to American composer John Luther Adams.
The 'Conductor of the Year' accolade has been presented to Italian conductor Gianandrea Noseda.
The 'Vocalist of the Year' accolade has been presented to American Wagnerian-Strauss soprano Christine Goerke.
A graduate of the Hamburg Musikhochschule, Lisa is a former 1st prize winner at the Sibelius International Violin Competition – and she currently serves as Artist-in-Residence with the New York Philharmonic.
Founded in 1889, Musical America is America's oldest classical music publication.
The Musical America Awards will be presented in a special ceremony in New York City on December 11th.
