London Transport Museum to Host Concert Series for City's Top Young Musicians
Ten soloists or ensembles from the London conservatoires will perform at "Transported by Culture: Music"
The London Transport Museum has announced that it will host a new concert series, offering the best players from London's conservatoires an opportunity to perform in public. Titled Transported by Culture: Music, the series will host both classical and jazz players in the beautiful surroundings of the museum.
Ten soloists and ensembles have been selected from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, the Royal Academy of Music, the Royal College of Music, and Trinity Laban, following an open call for both undergraduate and postgraduate students to apply.
Each soloist or ensemble will perform ten times, in a series of concerts running from mid-February to October.
The Transport Museum's Director and CEO, Elizabeth McKay, says the series is part of a new strategic direction for the museum that involves partnering with performers across the arts. So far, these efforts have included two theater productions, and a poster commissioning project is forthcoming.
"Not only are we the world’s leading museum of urban transport but, as a cultural cornerstone of the Covent Garden Piazza, we have a long history of embracing art, culture and design as part of our work," said Elizabeth McKay, Director and CEO of the London Transport Museum.
"As we look to the future, we want to do this even more. We are therefore delighted to be offering some of the capital’s leading young classical and jazz musicians the chance to perform in our iconic central London venue, supporting their career development and, in turn, offering a unique musical experience for our visitors as part of their visit."
