London’s Royal College of Music Awards Honorary Doctorates
The Royal College of Music, in London has today awarded honorary doctorates to eminent composer Steve Reich – and conductors Sir Roger Norrington and Vladimir Jurowski.
American-born Reich, 79 is respected internationally as one of the leading pioneers of the minimalist music movement.
Maestro Norrington, 81 is widely respected for his historically informed performances of Baroque, Classical and Romantic music – using period instruments and period styles.
He served Principal Conducting positions with the London Classical Players, Bournemouth Sinfonietta, Orchestra of St. Luke’s, Camarata Salzburg and the Zurich Chamber Orchestra.
Vladimir Jurowski, 43 currently serves as Principal Conductor of theLondon Philharmonic Orchestra.
The degrees were presented by the college’s President, HRH Prince Charles.
