The album serves as a critique of capitalist society, focusing on the battle between money and morals. The Seven Deadly Sins is a satirical ballet-chanté by Kurt Weill with a German libretto by Bertold Brecht. During its creation, Hitler had come to power and Jewish Weill and Marxist Brecht had both fled from Germany.
The sung ballet tells the story of Anna, a young woman torn between financial survival and personal values.
Singers Magdalena Kožená, Andrew Staples, Florian Boesch, Ross Ramgobin, and Alessandro Fisher collaborate with the London Symphony Orchestra. Recorded on April 28, 2022, in the Barbican Hall, London, Conductor Emeritus Sir Simon Rattle leads the orchestra in this new release.
Launched in 1999, LSO Live has pioneered the concept of artist-owned labels, allowing the players, conductors, and soloists to be stakeholders in the recordings.
