Russian alto saxophone soloist Matvey Sherling has been found deceased in his Moscow apartment - aged just 18
Acclaimed Russian classical and jazz alto saxophone soloist Matvey Sherling has been found deceased in his Moscow apartment - aged just 18.
A student at Moscow's Gnessin School of Music, Matvey was a former 1st prize winner at the George Gershwin International Competition, ‘The Nutcracker TV Contest for Young Musicians' and the Moscow International Saxophone Competition.
At the young age of 18, he had already made concerto appearances under a number of international conductors - including Vladimir Spivakov and Yuri Bashmet.

Preliminary investigations have suggested heart failure was most likely the cause of death.
Moscow Police has indicated there are no initial signs of foul play.
