New York’s Metropolitan Opera Appoint New Concertmaster
The Metropolitan Opera has announced the appointment of American-Canadian violinist Benjamin Bowman as their new Co-Concertmaster
The Metropolitan Opera, in New York City, has today announced the appointment of 38 year old American-Canadian violinist Benjamin Bowman as their new Co-Concertmaster - effective from the beginning of the 2018/2019 season.
A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, where he studied with Aaron Rosand, Benjamin has previously served as Concertmaster of the American Ballet Theatre Orchestra.
“I’m very happy about Ben’s appointment … he has proven himself to be an accomplished and inspiring leader - and has won the admiration and respect of his fellow orchestra members as well as mine,” incoming music director Yannick Nézet-Séguin has said.
Benjamin was initially appointed to a one-year contract in the role in June last year.
He will share the leadership duties at the Metropolitan Opera with violinist David Chan – who has held the seat since 2000.
