American conductor, violist and composer Hugo Vianello has passed away – aged 92
American conductor and violist Hugo Vianello has passed away – aged 92.
A graduate of the Manhattan School of Music and former violist with the New York Philharmonic, Bell Telephone Hour Orchestra, Minneapolis Symphony and the Oklahoma City Symphony, he later became a founding member of the Missouri Symphony Society and served as long-term music director of the Missouri Chamber Orchestra and the Missouri POPS Orchestra.
In 1987, he was instrumental in saving the historic Missouri Theatre from demolition - with the auditorium now named in his honor.
Maestro Vianello is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mrs Lucy Vianello and their four children.
