New England Conservatory to Stream Concert Series on The Violin Channel
Starting on February 11, The Violin Channel will present the talented players from NEC's Institute for Concert Artists and Professional Piano Trio Program
The Violin Channel is excited to announce a new streaming series with Boston's New England Conservatory (NEC). In the coming months, audiences will be treated to full performances from the school's Concert Artists Series — featuring artists in the Institute for Concert Artists and the Professional Piano Trio Program.
The Institute for Concert Artists at NEC (ICA at NEC) is a two-year, highly selective program for artists of extraordinary talent on the cusp of major performing careers. This program gives the artists access to preeminent performers and innovative arts leaders, individualized mentorship from NEC’s esteemed faculty, and a dedicated advisor. Along with guidance from ICA Advisor Gloria Chien, ICA Artists are given a full-tuition scholarship, and stipend, and are eligible for support for travel and artistic projects. Upon completion, the artists are awarded NEC’s prestigious Artist Diploma.
The Professional Piano Trio Program is for top-tier musicians seeking a platform to take their professional careers to new heights. Under the mentorship of Vivian Hornik Weilerstein, trios gain two years of tuition-free training at the highest level, mentorship in all aspects of musicianship and career development, and performance opportunities. NEC’s new Piano Trio in Residence for 2024-2026 is Trio Eris, comprising violinist K.J. McDonald, cellist Annie Hyung, and pianist Andrew Chen. They are the successors to NEC’s 2022-24 Trio in Residence, Trio Gaia.
Recorded in Jordan Hall, the Violin Channel series will start on Tuesday, February 11 at 7 PM (ET) with VC Artist violinist Joshua Brown in a program featuring works by will perform works by Robert Schumann, Beethoven, and Brahms. Stay tuned for a full schedule of upcoming concerts!
A student of Donald Weilerstein at NEC, Joshua is the recipient of the Nancy and Richard Lubin Institute for Concert Artists Scholarship. Joshua gained international attention after winning the 2nd Prize and both Audience Awards at the 2024 Queen Elisabeth Competition, in Brussels. Other international competition successes include the 1st Prize at the inaugural 2023 Global Music Education International Violin Competition in Beijing, China, as well as the 1st Prize and Audience Award at the 2019 International Violin Competition of Leopold Mozart in Augsburg, Germany.
Joshua has gone on to perform regularly with international orchestras, including the Munich Radio Orchestra, MDR Sinfonieorchester, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Civic Orchestra, and East Coast Chamber Orchestra, among others. Joshua received the Kronberg Academy’s 2023 Manfred Grommek Prize, and has been named a Pirastro Artist, Yamaha Young Performing Artist, and Luminarts Fellow. He received his Bachelor and Master of Music at NEC.
