New York’s Albany Symphony Appoints New Concertmaster
Violinist Christina Bouey has won the role with the GRAMMY Award-winning orchestra
The Canadian-American violinist Christina Bouey has now joined the Albany Symphony as its new Concertmaster Lifetime Chair, supported by the Goldberg Charitable Trust. She succeeds Jill Levy in the position.
Bouey most recently won first prize at the Waldo Mayo Violin Competition, which saw her subsequent concerto debut at Carnegie Hall. Additional accolades have included the top prizes at the Vietnam International Chamber Competition, Schoenfeld International String Competition, Fischoff Competition, and the Osaka International Chamber Competition.
She serves as concertmaster of the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra and has performed as a soloist with the Greenwich Symphony, Cayuga Chamber Orchestra, Salina Symphony, River Cities Symphony, Symphony of the Mountains, Tonkünstler Ensemble, Metro Chamber Orchestra, and the Bergen Symphony, among others.
Bouey is also a member and founder of the Ulysses String Quartet which holds the Quartet-In-Residence position at the WGBH radio station, and served as Lisa Arnhold Fellows at The Juilliard School.
A graduate of the Manhattan School of Music and Boston Conservatory, she studied with Glenn Dicterow, Lisa Kim, Laurie Smukler, Nicholas Mann, and Irina Muresanu.
Recently, Bouey was also appointed Assistant Professor of Violin at Ithaca College. She will also soon be releasing her upcoming debut album including the premiere of her own composition Orpheus Romps Through The Underworld, and The Tempest violin sonata by the GRAMMY-nominated composer Joseph Summer.
Bouey performs on a 1790 Storioni violin on generous loan from a private donor.
“I am ecstatic to announce that I won the concertmaster position with the Albany Symphony,” Bouey posted on Instagram. “I am very excited to begin the journey this weekend with the incredible David Alan Miller, the amazing musicians and the wonderful staff. I hope to see you at a concert in Albany soon!”
