Onyx Records has announced the release of violinist James Ehnes' new album: 'Beethoven Violin Sonatas Nos. 1-3'

Onyx Records has announced the release of violinist James Ehnes‘ new album: ‘Beethoven Violin Sonatas Nos. 1-3‘.

Recorded with pianist Andrew Armstrong, the disc features Beethoven’s Violin Sonatas No.1 in D, No. 2 in A and No. 3 in E-Flat – with Beethoven’s ‘12 Variations on Su vuol ballare‘ from Mozart’s ‘Le nozze di Figaro‘.

”This new CD is a continuation of the Beethoven Sonata cycle I’ve been doing with Andrew Armstrong over the last several years … we’ve had the great fortune of performing all of these works in many of our favorite venues around the world, and recording them has been a joy …” James has told The Violin Channel.

“These early sonatas are particularly fascinating as they are such mature and complete works on their own, yet also point to the directions Beethoven was to explore in his later works …” he has said.

“I also feel like the Variations are an under appreciated treasure …. they are charming, beautiful, and for the piano amazingly virtuosic!”
