OUT NOW | Cellist Nadège Rochat Releases Dvořák and Caplet Cello Concertos

The new album features Antonín Dvořák's Cello Concerto in B minor, Op. 104 and André Caplet's Epiphanie (d'après une légende éthiopienne).

Dvořák's B minor Cello Concerto was written between November 1894 and February 1895 and remains to this day as one of the most popular pieces in the cello repertoire.

During this time, the Bohemian composer was in the U.S. serving as the director of the National Conservatory of Music of America, where he stayed from 1892 to 1895.

As Claude Debussy’s closest collaborator, French composer Caplet was described by Debussy in a letter to Georges Jean-Aubry in 1908 as having a “gift for evoking atmosphere” and “rare sense of proportion” in composition.

Caplet’s Épiphanie Op. 22 was written in 1923. Dedicated to his son on his birthday, it stands as one of his last works before his death two years later.

“These two pieces are my finest works,” Caplet wrote to his wife in 1923 on his Épiphanie and Le Miroir de Jésus. “It is thus only natural that I should dedicate them to my loved ones,” he added. The latter piece was dedicated to his wife.
