Violinist Arianna Warsaw-Fan Rauch's Book, “Declassified”

Published by Penguin Random House, this memoir is a guide to classical music for the learner and the professional

Arianna Warsaw-Fan Rauch’s new and first book titled “Declassified: A Low-Key Guide to the High-Strung World of Classical Music,” is a guide-book memoir offering behind-the-scenes insight of the music industry and covers music’s various eras, instruments, and performance etiquette.

“Declassified” also covers her musical journey, with each chapter including personal, professional, and historical details. Through demystifying the classical music world for the mainstream audience, the book aims to impart that the genre matters now more than ever.

A graduate of New York’s Juilliard School, violinist Arianna Warsaw-Fan Rauch has performed in Carnegie Hall, Boston Symphony Hall, Kennedy Center, Jack Singer Concert Hall, Blue Note jazz club, and at the Ravinia, Verbier, La Jolla Summerfest, and Aspen Music Festivals.

She has also served as concertmaster of the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester, Juilliard Symphony, McGill Chamber Orchestra, Pacific Music Festival Orchestra, among others. Her collaborators have included jazz trumpeter Sir James Galway and Chris Botti.

“I want to dispel elitist stereotypes around classical music and create a point of entry for people who may be interested in the genre but may be uncomfortable jumping in,” she told the Post Independent. “I want to give people a view into the human side of this music and the musicians; it’s not a monolith that you put up on a pedestal in a museum.”

For Arianna, the book — which took almost three years — was the product of key passions and influences in her life — her mother was a writer and her dad was a pianist.
