Resonus Classics has announced the release of the Dutch-based Dudok Quartet Amsterdam's new album: 'Haydn Opus 20. 1, 4, 6'.
The disc features Haydn's String Quartets Op. 20 No. 1, 4, and 6.
''The program of our very first performance as the Dudok Quartet included a string quartet from the Opus 20 cycle of Joseph Haydn ... his music has always felt like a natural and familiar language to us which we could speak and understand intuitively - and one that also sparked our curiosity for delving deeper into its grammatical structure ..." violinist Judith Van Driel has this month told The Violin Channel.
"Haydn still guides our hands and minds when exploring repertoire that was written by composers both before and after him ... these quartets show a combination of the playfulness of Boccherini and the melancholy of Brahms - coupled with a clever design that's as progressive as the composers of the 2nd Viennese School," she has said.
