Percussionist Wins Global Project Grant of the Arts Council Luxembourg

Pascal Schumacher will use the grant to bring his new album, GLASS TWO, to fruition

Established in 2020, the Global Project Grants are awarded annually by the Arts Council Luxembourg to up to three musicians from different stylistic backgrounds, to assist with the development of an ambitious medium- or long-term project.

Percussionist and composer Pascal Schumacher has recently been named as one of the 2024 recipients.

Schumacher will use his award to fund GLASS TWO, a collaborative project with the German-Greek pianist Danae Dörben. The album, which features Schumacher on vibraphone, will explore the minimalist works of Philip Glass and is slated for release on the NEUE MEISTER label in mid-2024.

Equally at home in classical music and in jazz, Pascal Schumacher earned two master’s degrees: one in musicology from Marc Bloch University in Strasbourg, and one focused on jazz vibraphone from the Koninklijk Conservatorium in The Hague. He is the founder of a number of groups, including the Pascal Schumacher Quartet and the Interchange Ensemble.

"I’m absolutely enchanted to receive the 2024 Global Grant, a crucial boost for my upcoming project, GLASS TWO," Schumacher said. "Teaming up with the accomplished German-Greek pianist Danae Dörben, we are shaping a deeply personal rendition of Philip Glass’s oeuvre, interwoven with original compositions infused by his unique style and aesthetics."

"This funding is crucial for both the tour and the promotional campaign of the upcoming album."

For the 2024 round of Global Project Grants, the jury comprised Stephanie Baustert (manager), Marc Hauser (Rotondes) Florence Martin (United Instruments of Lucilin), Marc Nickts (SACEM Luxembourg), and John Rech (opderschmelz).
