Pianist Seong-Jin Cho's New Album, "Ravel: The Complete Solo Piano Works"

The new release celebrates Maurice Ravel's 150th Anniversary

Pianist Seong-Jin Cho has released a new album on Deutsche Grammophon in celebration of Maurice Ravel's 150th anniversary. The project consists of two albums and a series of tracks for download/streaming.

The first album, Ravel: The Complete Solo Piano Works, has been released, followed by the second album featuring Ravel's two piano concertos on February 21. A deluxe edition with all the complete recordings will be released on April 11.

Seong-Jin shared, “I’ve always been fascinated by the ideas, colors, and emotions to be found in Ravel’s music, and it has been an honor to record his complete solo piano works and concertos.”

Pianist Seong-Jin Cho has loved Ravel's music since childhood and has always felt a close connection with French piano literature. During his studies at the Paris Conservatoire, he fully immersed himself in the music of Ravel. He shared, “Ravel really knew what he wanted, so I try to follow his specific markings.

"Miroirs, for example, is incredibly technically demanding. It’s so sensitive and dramatic, full of imagination and color – it’s almost impossible to apply every marking, but I try my best!”

The 2025 season features Seong-Jin performing Ravel’s concertos and complete solo piano works during the anniversary year. He will perform a recital at the Vienna Konzerthaus on January 25, followed by a US tour in February and March at Carnegie Hall and LA’s Walt Disney Concert Hall. April and May include recital appearances at London’s Barbican Centre and venues throughout Germany, such as Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie and the Berlin Philharmonie, as part of his season as Artist in Residence with the Berliner Philharmoniker, with more dates to follow in Asia and the US through the summer.
